The future is with variator?
A rumor appeared that FHI plans to stop works on new Automatic Transmission development; and to direct all forces on the continuously variable transmission (CVT) development. May be that is just a rumor but it sounds like a truth. And recollecting the fact that in 2015 the new standard on profitability will come into force, it becomes obvious, that the primary goal of designers now is developing less gluttonous variants, not losing thus in speed and comfort. Even now variators win in fuel consumption in comparison with other types of transmissions - with them the consumption is lower with 10 %.
To become the leader in 2015 it is necessary to start right now - it seems like this is on Subaru designers' mind. First cars with new variators are expected by 2008-2009. Before Subaru used variators on its bantam cars, but now it looks like it will be a question about Impreza, Legacy and Tribeca!
