The rally career of the Scot has begun in 1986 when he has started to participate in the rally championship of Scotland. Colin's constant performances have made him a name of the fast pilot with special style of piloting which was often compared to a manner of legendary Ari Vatanen. In 1987 Colin for the first time participated in a stage of the world championship.
In 1993 Colin was invited in SWRT. Supporting the Japanese command, McRae has helped them to win three World Constructors' Championships, and in 1995 he became the world champion.
Colin McRae has become the first British who managed to become the world rally champion. The Scot has won this title in 1995, becoming at the same time the youngest world champion in history.
