The six star emblem on the Subaru cars symbolize the Pleiad, one of the most famous which is considered to be is the Taurus constelation(Subaru is the Japanese name of the constelation). It symbolize the association of six companieas, which constitute the Fuji Heavy Industries. The constellation are famous for centuries and are mentioned in the Homeric Odyssey and in Bible.
Pleyads are also famous under the name of "Seven sisters", because the person with a normal eye sight can see seven stars. The record number of the stars which could be seen in the Pleyad is 19 (probaly this was the way in the antique times to check the eye sight). Using the telescope it is possible to see more stars in this constellation, the total number of which consist near 400.
The most bright star in the Pleyad is Alcyone, in favorem of which is called the SVX Subaru model.
It is not very clear why the "Seven sisters" are represented by a six star symbol. May be the Japanese have bad eye sight.
