Part II. Psychological aspect.
If you were surprised, that we speak about operated drift and consider that you don't need this trick - that is a big mistake. The analysis of extreme situations on slippery road shows, that it is possible to get out of such situations exclusively using tricks very similar by techniques to operated drift. And, vice versa: the finish in a ditch with various results - usually explained by the following: the driver has appeared to not be ready to the certain car's behavior, and all his actions were inaccurate and untimely.
For working off of the situation close to "fighting" - there is a remarkable exercise "shifting". That is on the certain speed you "shift" your car from one lane to another, gradually increasing maneuver speed. Certainly, all this is carried out on a territory of the sufficient sizes and without obstacles. For check and comparison: try to execute vigorous "shifting" at speed 70..80 km/h on the slippery road BEFORE starting mastering operated drifts. If you will manage to keep Subaru from rotation - you had luck or you've just "hit the tempo". AFTER working off of operated drift - shifting at the speed 110..120 km/h on the snow will not seem to you an impossible thing, and you will not do ANYTHING ESPECIAL in looks. This is a psychological aspect.
If I have convinced you - welcome to the training! I think there is no need to explain that skills of extreme driving is better to work through on special racing tracks, on the frozen lake's ice, as a last resort - just on a field road without any risk of accident. The advantage of such trainings is obvious:
- first of all, you cease to be afraid of the car, there is nothing in steering your car that you would be frightened of and what you could not mange to do;
- secondly, the skills worked through up to automatism allow you to not think of what should you do in an extreme situation. That is you like don't do something especial just because you initially start to do everything right: in time to press or to not press gas and a brake, in time to turn the steering wheel at the necessary corner.
It is also very useful during training... to appear in a snowdrift on a road shoulder few times. Just to get rid of excessive self-confidence. THAT IS - circling on the ice, you achieve that necessary psychological balance when you do not think of steering and make your technique automatic, but at the same time learning well WHAT you OUGHT NOT TO DO. You can do this training on a regular basis; you can complicate it as you want. But there is a simple conclusion: when you have achieved minimal time of circle's passage, not having appeared thus in a snowdrift, and you show this minimal time stably from time to time - I congratulate, you have reached a comprehensible level, you will hardly be overtaken after that.
But still that is not all...
